Bowden council has thrown its support behind an idea from the commander of the Olds RCMP detachment to create a regional school resource officer position.

At its Jan. 27 meeting, council gave its support in principle to the concept while it waits for more information about the proposed position from Staff Sgt. Joe Sangster.

The creation of the position would involve a partnership between Bowden, the RCMP, the Town of Olds, Chinook's Edge School Division and Red Deer and Mountain View counties.

Sangster said he was not prepared to provide details about his idea when contacted by the Olds Albertan as he is still working on funding details.

But in a letter to the organizations and municipalities that would partner in the creation of the school resource officer position dated Jan. 23, Sangster stated he would like to organize a meeting with the proposed partners ìto have a round table about the position.î

Sangster has said focusing on working with young people in the community is one of his priorities for 2014.
