OLDS — Summer Synergy 2021 was a “smashing success,” according to Olds Regional Exhibition (ORE) general manager Tracy Gardner.

The week-long event was a partnership between the ORE, Calgary Stampede, Olds College and 4-H Alberta as well as several other sponsors.

Nearly 250 youth aged nine to 21 from across Western Canada participated in the event, held July 12-17 at the ORE grounds.

They learned and competed in 15 competitions, including grooming and showing various animals.

About $40,000 worth of scholarships were presented to youth.

Former ORE executive director Tami Gardner, Tracy’s mother, received the Synergy Builder Award.

Gardner was involved with ORE for about 30 years, first as a volunteer, then as its executive director for more than 19 years, before stepping down in July, 2019.
