A man who walked from Olds to Red Deer this past week (Thursday, Oct. 2 to Saturday, Oct. 4) didn't raise as much money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation as he hoped, but he's still happy he did it – and he might make the walk again.
“I'm happy it's over, but I could do it again if I had to,” Daniel Trudell told the Albertan. His goal was to raise $10,000. He couldn't say exactly how much was raised.
Trudell, 48, of Torrington, suffered a stroke in the summer of 2013.
The cold Thursday was a shocker.
“I only had my hoodie and a jacket. I definitely wasn't prepared,” he says.
He fixed that the next day by adding another layer or two. He made sure to wear mitts too.
He limped, which put a lot of strain on one side of his body, resulting in a lot of pain. That also made him extra tired. When he finished his first 20-kilometre stretch “I laid out on the ground, I was so tired.”
Trudell's 15-year-old daughter Sarah came all the way from B.C. to cheer him on. He hadn't seen her in three years. His friend Margaret Sheffield walked with him.
