OLDS — The sixth annual fundraising banquet for the Olds branch of the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre was a great success, according to Anne Waddell, the centre’s executive director.

Waddell says the event, held March 5 at the Pomeroy Inn & Suites, attracted about 320 people.

Just over $32,000 was raised in just that one night, a little less than last year, when about $36,000 was raised.

“We had a wonderful evening. We had a packed house. I think it was sold out,” Waddell said in an interview.

Even more money is expected to trickle in during the next little while.

Waddell noted that last year, the total raised eventually came to about $48,000.

She said all the money raised during the event goes toward covering costs to run the Olds operation.

Waddell said the current economy is reflected in the donations the organization is receiving.

“We can feel it somehow a little bit in all our events because as well we did Rocky Mountain House in December and Red Deer and I think overall, our numbers are a little bit lower, but not that much,” Waddell said.

“A big thank you to the community for their ongoing support because what, it’s been six years now? This was our sixth fundraising event in Olds and we’re very thankful and blessed for the support of the community,” she added.

Waddell said if anyone wants to contribute to the branch of the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre, they can still do so by going to its website: https://www.pregnancycare.ca.
