Sixteen students recommended for music provincials

OLDS — Sixteen students who performed during this year’s Olds & District Kiwanis Music Festival have been recommended to participate in the Alberta provincial Music Festival, which will be held totally online this year, in the wake of COVID concerns. 

Following is a list of those students and the provincial recommendations for 2022: 

Glen Machel Memorial Piano Recommendation Awards 

Piano solo, 12 years and under: Jocelyn Zhou and Elaine Meng. 

Piano solo, Grades 2-3: Anna Unger and Tyler Lema.  

Piano solo, Grades 4-5: Amelia Hoffman and Nikolas Roy. 

Mitchell Ormann Memorial Piano Recommendations 

Piano solo, Grades 6-7: Larissa Bullock and Aiden Hoffman. 

Piano solo, Grades 8-9: Sophia Vermuelen and Juan-Pierre Hoffman. 

Piano concerto, one movement: Jocelyn Zhou. 

Piano concerto, full: Sophia Vermuelen. 

Contemporary vocals, 12 and under: Amelia Hoffman. 

Contemporary vocals, senior: Ella Challoner. 

Classical vocals, 12 and under: Amelia Hoffman. 

Classical vocals, 14 and under: Lily Gee. 

Classical vocals, 16 and under: Andrue Kincaide-Proctor and Ashlyn Ord. 

Classical vocals, senior: Candice Brandson. 

Musical Theatre, ballad, 12 and under: Amelia Hoffman. 

Musical Theatre, uptempo, 12 and under: Selah Neufeld and Amelia Hoffman. 

Musical Theatre, ballad, 16 and under: Ashlyn Ord. 

Musical Theatre, ballad, senior: Ella Challoner and Candice Brandson. 

Musical Theatre, uptempo, senior: Ella Challoner. 

High School choral: the École Olds High School choir. 

The Olds & District Kiwanis Music Festival wrapped up with its Grand Concert & Awards, held March 29 at the TransCanada Theatre and the benefit concert, held April 5, also at the TransCanada Theatre. 

The society is now accepting registrations for its Songsational musical theatre camp, which will be held Aug. 22-25.
