OLDS — Council has voted unanimously to provide a $1,000 for the 10th annual Mountain View Seniors' Housing Foundation (MVSHF) 2020 golf classic.

The event, which raises money for the MVSHF, is scheduled to be held Sept. 17 at the Olds Golf Club.

According to a MVSHF brochure, money raised via the tournament funds activities and the purchase of specialized furniture and equipment to create safe and home-like environments for residents of Mountain View Seniors' Housing facilities.

During the past nine years, the MVSHF has raised more than $170,941 through the golf tournament.

Sponsorship levels range from a $500 hole sponsorship to $5,000 for the platinum level of support.

MVSH asked the town to provide a $1,000 silver level sponsorship, the same level as last year.

Council was told the town has a $6,000 budget for sponsorships. As of Aug. 24, it had only spent $1,102.24.

Coun. Heather Ryan, the town’s liaison with MVSH, spoke in favour of the sponsorship.

“Their work has been tremendous over the years. They’ve been able to provide some much-needed equipment in the buildings. So it’s a good cause and I’m glad that we can support it,” she said.

“Absolutely,” said mayor Michael Muzychka. “This is one of their bigger fundraisers for the year and we appreciate all the work that they do.”
