Retired Bowden CAO receives parting gift from council

Retired Bowden chief administrative officer Andy Weiss has received a parting gift from town council.

During the Jan. 25 town council meeting, Mayor Robb Stuart presented Weiss with a plaque thanking him for his service to the community. That meeting ended Weiss's last day as a town employee.

Weiss retired after a roughly 30-year career in municipal government. About nine of those years were spent with the Town of Bowden.

“I just wanted to thank Andy for the time that he spent in the Town of Bowden,” Stuart said as he presented the plaque to Weiss.

“He was always available weekends and nights and days. Verla (Weiss's wife) is probably hoping the phone's not going to go off again at 2:30 in the morning again,” Stuart added, sparking laughter.

Stuart said the plaque was presented “in sincere appreciation of the services you've done for the town over the years. You've bailed us out; thank you.”

Weiss indicated he was grateful for the gift.

He said over the years, he has come to know the town's councillors very well.

“I can tell you that while we haven't always seen eye to eye, I really, truly believe that this is a very dedicated group,” Weiss said, urging them to “keep asking the tough questions.”

“I see especially with this council that you guys agonize over many decisions that affect the future of your friends, family, neighbours. And that's good stuff; I'm really going to miss that, for sure,” he added.

He said he'll still be around the area.
