Red Deer-Mountain View MP Earl Dreeshen told Olds councillors the passing of former prime minister Brian Mulroney marks “the end of an era.”

OLDS — During a recent visit to Olds town council, Red Deer-Mountain View Member of Parliament Earl Dreeshen paid tribute to former prime minster Brian Mulroney.

Mulroney, who served as the 18th prime minister of Canada from 1984 to 1993, passed away Feb. 29. A state funeral for him was held Saturday, March 23

Canadians came by to pay tribute to him as his body was brought into a building opposite Parliament Hill in Ottawa Tuesday. It will lie in state there until his funeral this weekend in Montréal, Quebec.

It was preceded by a lying-in-state in Ottawa, Ontario, and a lying-in-repose in Montréal.

Flags at the Town of Olds administrative office have been set at half-mast since the announcement of Mulroney’s death.

“It is something that is a historic thing for those of us that have made politics part of our lives,” Dreeshen said.

“We recognize an ending of an era. I think there's a lot of people that have reflected on various aspects of that.”
