Falling trees resulted in two back-to-back power outages in Olds Thursday, Nov. 3, according to FortisAlberta corporate communications director Jennifer MacGowan.

The first outage occurred just after 2 p.m. when a tree fell on a line, cutting power to about 500 customers around and including École Deer Meadow School.

“We lost lights and our Internet server,” École Deer Meadow School principal Carey Collin says.

Service was restored by about 3 p.m.

However, virtually immediately, more trees fell, creating another power outage, this time affecting about 225 customers – including the school.

“We were able to resolve one problem and then once we closed it back in to re-energize power, it ended up showing another problem,” MacGowan says.

Power was finally restored at about 5:25 p.m.
