OLDS — Want to know what's about to happen with the economy in the coming months?

Todd Hirsch, ATB’s chief economist is uncanny at making those predictions, says Olds & District Chamber of Commerce director Mary Jane Harper.

She’s booked him to give his thoughts during a Lunch & Learn session May 2 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #105. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Hirsch is expected to speak at 12 noon.

The local chamber of commerce is excited to bring back Lunch & Learn sessions now that COVID restrictions have largely been lifted.

During an interview, Harper said now is an especially important time for business people and residents to get an idea of what to expect after some very tumultuous months.

“With all of the changes, like the war in Ukraine, how prices have gone up in our products, the inflation, we’ve got a new federal budget out,” she said.

“My expectation is that he will be addressing how this is going to be affecting the Alberta economy and what his forecast is for the rest of the year.”

Hirsch is a popular speaker with an ability to make economic forecasts easily understandable, Harper says.

And she’s impressed with how accurate he can be.

“I had the opportunity to hear Todd last year as part of a real estate seminar I was in and he had nailed the next year right on – like literally had nailed it right on,” she said.

"So I’m hoping that with all the changes that have happened in the world in the last few months that he’s able to provide a good forecast for our Olds business people.”

Harper urges anyone interested in attending the luncheon to buy tickets now. Hirsch’s talks have tended to sell out quickly.

Tickets are $25 for chamber of commerce members and $30 for non-chamber members.

They can be obtained by going online to https://chambertoddhirsch.eventbrite.ca or by emailing the Olds & District Chamber of Commerce at [email protected]
