RCMP are investigating a string of break-ins and thefts that occurred in the Olds and Bowden area around the first week of August.

Progress has been made on the theft of a truck, which occurred some time between 10 p.m. Aug. 4 and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 5.

"The truck is believed to have been involved in other crime in the area," Cpl. Michael Black said during an interview with the Albertan. "The suspect has been identified and we're going to be going with charges on that one; we're just waiting for the information and warrant to come back."

The vehicle owner appears to have made an unwise decision.

"The truck was left unlocked. The keys were in the glovebox," Black said.

On Aug. 4 between 8 a.m. and 8:30 p.m., a thief or thieves broke into a home on Rge. Rd. 272 near Twp. Rd. 334.

When interviewed, Black said RCMP weren't sure who had committed that crime.

"Some fuel was stolen and we're still waiting for further information on what else was taken from the house. Nobody was home at the time," he said.

On Aug. 3, between 10 a.m. and 3:50 p.m., someone broke into a home at Twp. Rd. 340 and Rge. Rd. 15 and stole some jewelry. When interviewed, Black said police were still looking for suspects in that case.

On Aug. 2, a truck was stolen from Beach Crescent. It was recovered in Didsbury on Aug. 4.

In this case, it's believed the thief or thieves jimmied the lock.

"Apparently it was locked; the keys were accounted for," Black said.

He said a camper at that crime scene was entered, but it doesn't look like anything was taken from that vehicle.

Police are looking for any information the public can provide on that theft.

Also overnight on Aug. 2, a 1998 blue Dodge Ram, with licence plate BHY5628 was stolen from a business in the 4500 block of 49th Avenue.

On Aug. 1 at 4:09 a.m., a break-in occurred at a home on Westview Drive in Bowden.

RCMP responded and found two males in the garage.

"Members attended (and) attempted to stop the suspects in vehicles, but they fled from police," Black said. "A silver Volvo car was involved. It was reported stolen from Olds earlier."

Black said police have identified one suspect in that incident and charges were expected to be laid against that person.

"The Volvo that was seen or stolen (was) involved (in) some sort of robbery or theft in Red Deer as well, but that's not in our jurisdiction," he said.

Between 10 p.m. July 31 and 5:30 p.m. Aug. 1, a lime green Dodge truck with Mountain View Dodge written on the side was stolen from the Bowden rodeo grounds.

"The truck was later recovered, abandoned at a well site. We're looking for suspects, information on that," Black said.
