One of the four charities benefiting from the second annual Spring Fling fundraiser is Holy Trinity Catholic School and the ROAR (Responsibility Offering Action and Respect) Fundraising Society.

This year's edition of Spring Fling takes place Friday, April 8, 7 p.m. at the Cow Palace.

The Holy Trinity group wants to raise funds to expand the school's playground.

“Right now it accommodates about 65 kids and we have about 250 children in our school, so we're hoping to expand it to accommodate at least 150,” ROAR Fundraising Society rep. Cobi Grisack says.

“We do separate our lunch hours and of course, we cater to pre-K to Grade 8, so not all of those kids need to be on the playground at the same time.”

Under the Spring Fling concept, four causes split proceeds from a big party celebrating the arrival of spring.

In addition to the Holy Trinity School playground expansion project, this year's causes are:

Funding to cover costs for the Chinook Arch Victims Services compassion dog.

Money to enable the Olds Gymnastics Club to expand into a bigger building.

Hope4MVCKids, which raises money to help families within Mountain View County who have a child with medical needs.

Tickets are $75 each. Fun drinks and fancy hotdogs will be available.

Patrons vote for any of the four local causes named above. The one receiving the most votes will receive 50 per cent of the proceeds. The other three will split the remaining 50 per cent.

The ROAR fundraising group consists of three people. In addition to Grisack they are Joy Cavin and Lorna Williams.

“We're ecstatic to be given the opportunity to raise some funds for our playground expansion project at our school and in the Highlands community,” Grisack says.

“We're at the beginning stages of our fundraising project right now and we're looking forward to thinking up some activities to do during the Spring Fling night,” she adds.

“We just look forward to moving forward with this project and we thank the Spring Fling and the town for the opportunity to carry forward with this.”

Last year, the four causes splitting the inaugural Spring Fling proceeds were: the Olds and District Hospice Society, Olds Splash Park Association, Olds Grizzlys and Olds Regional Exhibition commercial kitchen.

The Olds and District Hospice Society received the most votes. A total of about $30,000 was distributed among the four causes.
