Pair facing charges of stealing property

Two Olds residents are facing charges of possessing stolen property following a hit-and-run collision late last week.

Two Olds residents are facing charges of possessing stolen property following a hit-and-run collision late last week.

Lonnie Schwager and Billyjack Williams, both 38, are facing charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000 after citizens who were involved in a hit-and-run collision later noticed the offending vehicle and called police. When Olds RCMP members attended the location where the vehicle was found, they discovered it was stolen.

ìAs a result of our initial findings we ended up seizing at that time, about $100,000 in stolen property,î said Staff Sgt. Kevin Morton.

Further investigation led the RCMP to execute two search warrants on separate properties in Olds. On Saturday, further property valued at over $200,000 was seized from the two residences, including three Ford pickup trucks, a cargo trailer, a large selection of performance wheel rims, three snowmobiles and three motorcycles.

RCMP believe the stolen items are tied to organized crime.

ìYou don't get that kind of property and you don't move that kind of property without some ties to it,î Morton said.

Schwager is to appear in court January 31 and Williams will appear on March 14.

The RCMP investigation into the matter is continuing. Anyone who may have additional information is asked to contact the detachment at (403) 556-3324 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
