One woman is dead and four others have been hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash just north of Bowden today.

EMS spokesman Adam Loria says ambulance personnel were called to the scene at about 9:30 a.m.

The collision involved three vehicles: a semi –trailer, an SUV and a minivan on Highway 2 at Township Road 351 near the RCMP dog training facility.

One woman in her 20s, an occupant of the SUV, was declared deceased at the scene.

A second woman in her 20s, also an occupant of the SUV, was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary with "serious internal and external injuries," according to Loria. By late morning, she was considered to be in stable and in non life-threatening condition.

A third woman in her 20s, also an SUV occupant, was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Two patients with non-life threatening injuries were sent to the Innisfail Health Centre. One was a woman in her 20s and another occupant of the occupant of the SUV. The other was a woman in her 40s. She was the only occupant of the minivan.

The driver of the semi-trailer did not wish to be assessed by EMS, and was determined uninjured.

A portion of the highway was closed while officials dealt with the matter.
