Olds youth charged for attempted theft

A 17-year-old Olds youth has been arrested and is facing three charges in connection with the attempted theft of a truck and trailer in Airdrie.

Airdrie RCMP say at 1 a.m. on Sept. 19, they found the youth "ducking down" to avoid being seen when they conducted a patrol through an Airdrie neighbourhood.

The youth, whose name cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with possession of stolen property, mischief, and possession of break-in tools. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Airdrie provincial court on Oct. 26.

An RCMP news release says on Sept. 19 at 1 a.m., police were conducting patrols in residential neighbourhoods of Airdrie when "they saw a male duck down in the driver's seat of a parked vehicle."

"The vehicle, an older model Dodge truck had an attached trailer with a BobCat on it. The officers noticed damage to the lock of the truck's driver's- side door and when officers looked inside, they saw a male trying to hide. The ignition on the truck had been damaged and the headlights had been turned on."
