OLDS — Town council has approved grants for two upcoming events in town.

A total of $5,000 is going to support the 2024 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference men’s volleyball championships.

Olds College will be hosting that event from Feb. 22-24 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

Another $1,200 is going to the 41st annual Olds & District Kiwanis Music Festival Society Festival of the Performing Arts which will be held March 20 – 28.

Mayor Judy Dahl asked if the college had asked for $5,000 from the town. Chief administrative officer Brent Williams confirmed that they had.

A request for decision in council’s Jan. 8 agenda package noted that the music festival has received entries from 13 towns and cities, not only from Olds but also Bowden, Carstairs, Cochrane, Cremona, Crossfield, Didsbury, Olds, Sundre, Water Valley and Calgary.

In 2023, Olds & District Kiwanis Music Festival attracted 301 entries and about 1,290 performances.
