Due to the very cold weather forecast for this weekend, the Olds Fashioned Christmas Light Up parade and outdoor activities have been postponed until next Saturday, Dec. 6.

However, the indoor events in the Cow Palace, like appearances by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, as well as activities and the provision of snacks, will go ahead as planned this Saturday, Nov. 29, starting at 5 p.m.

As of Friday, Nov. 28, forecasters were anticipating the temperature to feel as cold as -32 or -35 with the wind chill.

In addition to the annual parade, outdoor events that had been scheduled for Saturday included wagon rides and the unveiling of a blacksmith's shop in the village in Centennial Park.

In addition to visits with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, events in the Cow Palace that will go ahead this Saturday, Nov. 29 include cookie decorating, crafts, face painting, onstage entertainment and other activities. Hotdogs, popcorn and hot beverages will also be available. All those activities are scheduled to run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Olds Fashioned Christmas Committee town liaison Lorraine Piller says the decision to postpone the outdoor activities was an obvious one.

“It's going to be -32 tomorrow, who wants to stand out and watch the parade? Who wants to be in the parade at -32?”

When the outdoor events do occur Dec. 6, Piller says the blacksmith's shop will be officially unveiled at 4 p.m. and the parade will begin at 5 p.m.
