Olds’ Danielle Lappage won wrestling gold for Canada at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on July 31.

Lappage defeated Geetika Jakhar of India in the final match to win the 63-kilogram weight class.

In the semifinals, she beat Cloe Spiteri of England.

Before that, she defeated Blessings Oborududu of Nigeria in the quarter-finals.

Earlier this month, she won gold for Canada at the World University Championships in Pecs, Hungary.

In September, the 23 year old will wrestle in the World Championships in Uzbekistan.

Lappage started wrestling at Ecole Deer Meadow School when she was about 12 years old.

She earned a spot on the senior Canadian national team in May.
