Olds council proclaims today a Day of Mourning

The Town of Olds was invited to observe April 28 by lowering the town flag to half mast

OLDS — Thursday, April 28 has been proclaimed a Day of Mourning in Olds to recognize all workers who have been killed, injured or disabled at their workplace.

Council made that decision during its April 11 meeting.

The Workers Compensation Board for Alberta has announced plans to lower its flag to half-mast on that day and has invited the Town of Olds to do so as well.

As she brought the matter forward, interim chief administrative officer Sheena Linderman said last year, 178 workers died in Alberta as a result of workplace injury or illness.

A request for decision from administrative staff indicated that it’s hoped the proclamation will help “generate greater awareness” and "commit to doing better within our workplaces.”
