Second local business looks for marijuana zone re-designation

An application to re-designate three lots from Light Industrial District to Direct Control 7 District has been made by a second business in the town of Olds. Direct Control District is specific to medical marijuana facility use and development.

The company, Olds Soft Gels, currently operates at 5807- 48th Ave., and is proposing to develop a full medical marijuana facility on this and two adjacent lots, in order to produce cannabis oil soft gels.

Council gave first reading to the bylaw amendment, and set the public hearing for Tuesday May 23 at 7 p.m. in council chambers.

Council made the same change for two lots owned by medical marijuana producer Sundial Growers Inc. after a public hearing on April 10.

Public hearing for narrow lot driveways in Highlands

A public hearing has been set to discuss a proposed bylaw amendment that would allow for narrow lots in the Highlands development to have front driveway access, instead of lane-only access.

The bylaw would apply to the entire town, but could be restructured as site-specific, allowing it to apply only to subject lots in the Highlands development.

Council gave first reading to the bylaw amendment, and set the public hearing for Monday June 26 at 7 p.m. in council chambers. An open house for public input will also be hosted prior to the public hearing.
