Members of the Olds Community Chorus are gearing up for their annual Christmas concert schedule.

Their Olds concert will take place Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

Before that, they'll be performing Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Missionary Church in Didsbury, because several members of the chorus come from that community.

Ticket information is available from chorus members. It's also on their website.

Grant Spence, past-president of the chorus, says those who attend the shows will hear a wide variety of music.

"We've got a lovely bunch of music here," he says. Some of it goes back to the 1600s."

Concert-goers will hear everything from African music to Song for a Winter's Night by Gordon Lightfoot. They'll also be performing a tune in German.

In between, the Community Chorus will sing the famous Handel's Messiah chorus as well as some spirituals, like the well-known Down by the Riverside and a piece by the Nylons.

They'll also be performing a tune from the Broadway version of The Phantom of the Opera.

Spence is looking forward to singing another special piece of music.

"This is an interesting one," he says. "This is about the geese flying south and getting the idea that 'the snow is coming and we'd better get out of here.'"
