Jordan Cleland is no longer the Olds College vice-president academic.

Cleland, 45, resigned his position, effective today (Tuesday, Dec. 22). He had been in the job for eight-and-a-half years.

In a statement, delivered Monday, Cleland said he's leaving his job voluntarily to become a communications, public affairs and strategic advisor.

He says he and his family will remain in Olds.

During an interview with the Albertan, Cleland said he left voluntarily.

“Absolutely; yeah,” he said.

“I made the decision last week,” Cleland added. “It's just a nice clean time of year with the semester break and the end of the year.

“I've been kind of planning some transition stuff and it just made sense for my boss and I (president Tom Thompson) to structure it right here going into the Christmas break.”

In his statement, Cleland said “I have been restless for the past few months, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it. My work ethic was still where it always was. My love for the college, its uniqueness and its people is as high as ever.”

He said he has no office set up for his consulting business yet.

“I'm going to enjoy a real great, peaceful time of Christmas with family and jump on that with full gusto in January,” he said.

Cleland said so far, no one has been chosen to replace him.

Cleland and his wife Jodi, who works at Stratum Energy, have three children, ages 13, 11 and eight.
