Olds College moves up list of Canada's top 50 research colleges

Olds College has moved up one spot to number 43 on a list of Canada’s top 50 research colleges.

It’s now ranked number 43 with research income of  $1,470, and 23 researchers in the fiscal year 2018, for a “research intensity” of $63.9 per researcher.

Niagara College tops the list with research income of  $11,185 and 34 researchers for a research intensity of $329.

Olds College is one of four Alberta colleges on the list. The others are SAIT, NAIT and Lethbridge College.

 “We are very pleased to be listed as one of the top research colleges in the country,” Joy Agnew, director of the Olds College Centre of Innovation, said in a news release.

“Olds College is focused on enhancing innovation in agriculture through applied research.

“The Olds College Centre for Innovation, together with our SmartFarm, and Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production, are working closely with industry to evolve existing agriculture practices.”

The college’s primary research areas of focus include agriculture technology, crops, environment and wetlands, livestock, and turfgrass.

The college works with industry, academics and government to support applied research, innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship.

The annual list is released by Research Infosource Inc.

Research income was in the form of research grants, contracts and contributions from third parties.
