OLDS — Michael Merritt, the Town of Olds chief administrative officer (CAO), has passed a job performance evaluation, undertaken by town council.

Council passed a motion to that effect during its May 10 meeting.

That motion came almost exactly four years after Merritt joined the town, replacing former CAO Norm McInnis, who took a similar position in Fernie, B.C.

Mayor Mike Muzychka pointed out that under the province’s Municipal Government Act, town councils are required to evaluate their CAOs every year.

"I just want to thank council for your support over the last four years,” Merritt said. “It’s been a wonderful experience for me to have come to the town and have good councils to work with over the last four years.

“And I also want to thank the staff that have supported me so well in this position. One cannot do this job without having a great support staff and thanks to all those who have contributed to this. So thank you mayor and council; thank you, staff.”

Muzychka said, “You’re very welcome, Mr. Merritt. It’s been a pleasure,”

Merritt told council that as of that May 10 meeting, it had been exactly “four years, two days and two hours since I had taken on these responsibilities.”
