A 24-year-old female driver has been charged with careless driving after a collision on Highway 2A and Twp. Rd. 324 claimed the life of a 52-year-old male motorcyclist on Sept. 19.

No further charges are expected.

“There (were) no elements for a Criminal Code charge,” an RCMP spokesperson said. “There's nothing there to suggest that she was negligent in her driving. Speed alone is not sufficient to prove that.”

According to a statement from RCMP, the two vehicles — a 2009 Dodge Caliber and a motorcycle — were travelling northbound on Highway 2A at about 4:15 p.m. The motorcyclist made a left-hand turn onto Twp. Rd. 324 and was struck from behind by the Caliber.

The release stated the Caliber was travelling approximately 25 kilometres per hour (kph) “in excess of the posted speed limit of 100 kph.”

The spokesperson said the driver of the Caliber had an address in Calgary. There was one other occupant inside the vehicle, a 23-year-old male who was in a romantic relationship with the driver, he said.

RCMP would not say if there was a relationship between the driver and the deceased.

Names of those involved in the collision have not been officially released.
