The Olds New Year's baby came into the world on Jan. 2. Melissa Walker, 37, of Olds gave birth to Benjamin at about 8:20 p.m. that day. He weighed eight pounds, one ounce and is Walker's fourth child. The father is Phil Phypers.

Walker says Benjamin was actually overdue. He was originally expected to be born on Christmas Day.
"Either way he's a gift," she says with a smile.
Walker was born after labour was induced. The whole process took about 12 hours, Walker estimates.
"Once it was started, he was ready," she says with a laugh, "if that makes sense."
The attending doctor was Dr. Gert Nel.
Walker and Benjamin's grandma, Penny Locke, say Nel was "awesome," as were the nurses who assisted in the delivery.
