School in Olds and Bowden starts again this Thursday, Sept. 1 and there are some new faces.

In the Chinook's Edge School Division (CESD), there are more than 30 new teachers – including two in Olds and Bowden: Emma Turville at Bowden Grandview School and Heather Dewling who will be teaching at Ecole Deer Meadow School.

CESD communications officer Sandy Bexon says enrolment in the CESD schools in this area – Bowden Grandview School, École Deer Meadow School, Ecole Olds Elementary School, Horizon School, Olds High School and Olds Koinonia Christian School – is expected to be close to last year.

“It appears we aren't expecting any big fluctuations in student numbers in any schools in that area -- they are coming in very close to last year's numbers. Of course, our final enrolment comes in at the end of September,” she says.

Enrolment at Holy Trinity Catholic School, a member of Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools, is expected to reach about 300 students this year, according to principal Michael Cellini.

As a result, there will be two Grade 3 classes this year and a few new teachers have been added. Portable classrooms are also in place.

The school is also partnering with the Chinook's Edge School Division to provide joint busing.
