New college vice-president named

Olds College is pleased to announce Debbie Thompson has been selected as the new vice-president, academic & student experience as well as chief innovation officer.

Most recently, Thompson served as the college's vice-president of student and support Services after joining OC in 2014 as the dean of animal sciences and horticulture.

Prior to working at Olds College, Thompson worked in the kindergarten to Grade 12 system, where she was recognized for her expertise in teaching and learning.

"I am thrilled that Debbie Thompson has accepted the role," says Olds College president Stuart Cullum. "It's an interesting time at Olds College with new leadership, recent precedent setting funding announcements and new growth opportunities emerging from our strengths in people, programming and outreach."

"Now more than ever, Olds College needs to nurture, engage and leverage its capacity, expertise and potential in order to respond effectively to these opportunities," he adds.

"I believe that Debbie Thompson will do a great job as our senior academic leader in support of our response. Her extensive background within the academic sector and track record of building collaborations and leading teams will be a tremendous asset as we build the next chapter for Olds College."

In her new role, Thompson will focus on academic leadership and service to students, while progressing the innovation and entrepreneurship mandate that is an integral part of the Olds College culture.

"It is an honour," Thompson says. "I believe the greatest asset of any organization is its people, and I have gained a deep appreciation and respect for the incredible students and staff who choose Olds College.

"I am humbled by this opportunity and look forward to serving in this new role as we continue to focus on student success, respond to the changing needs of our industries and maintain Olds College's excellent reputation for academic quality and integrity."

Thompson holds a master of arts degree in leadership and training from Royal Roads University and a bachelor of education degree from the University of Calgary.
