Ambulance (EMS) crews from Olds, Innisfail, Carstairs and Airdire responded to a multi-vehicle collision southbound on the QE II on Saturday.

RCMP are investigating to determine how the collision occurred.

It happened just before 9 a.m. near Twp. Rd. 320, between Olds and Didsbury.

In total, four vehicles were involved. Three occupants needed assistance from EMS personnel.

“Two of the patients – both women in their 30s – were travelling together in one vehicle while the third patient, also a female in her 30s, was the driver of a separate vehicle,” EMS spokesman Stuart Brideaux says.

“The driver of the first vehicle required extrication due to significant vehicle damage and was taken to Foothills Hospital in serious condition with multiple traumatic injuries.

“The front passenger of that same car was able to get out of the vehicle on her own. She was transported to Foothills Hospital in stable condition with minor injuries.

“The third patient from the other vehicle was also able to get out of her vehicle on her own and was ultimately transported to Didsbury Hospital in stable and non-life-threatening condition.

“Two other patients from other vehicles were also briefly assessed by paramedics at scene, but had not sustained any injuries, and therefore declined any further treatment or transport by EMS,” he says.

Initially, STARS air ambulance was called to the scene, but the crew was not able to launch, due to poor weather conditions at the time.
