Mayor hopeful gov't will listen to town's concerns

Olds mayor Judy Dahl says so far, she's received some good vibes from the new provincial government.

“Honestly, I have had some very good open ears from this new government. And they seem to be visible. So let's start there; we're going to start there,” she said during an interview with the Albertan.

The New Democratic Party (NDP) formed government in Alberta last May, knocking off the Progressive Conservatives, who had ruled the province for about 40 years.

Dahl says she's had a chance to hear representatives of the government at various conferences, etc.

“I am actually looking forward to their outcomes. They're very blunt in what they do and say,” Dahl says.

“Working with the NDP government so far, they seem to be forward thinkers. They're open to listen. Our job now is to share our stories of how and where we're at today and ask them for their feedback on where we can go tomorrow.

“For example, the whole concept of the wastewater line, where we were forced to have to do it nine, 10 years ago and not build a standalone water treatment plant. We were told by the province we had to do it, taking a $3- million project and turning it into a $130-million project. That is a burden for our taxpayers.

“So we just want to make sure that our story is heard and we will be moving forward with sharing that with the new NDP government.”
