Olds town council has six priorities as it heads into the new year, according to mayor Judy Dahl.
Those six goals are:
build better relationships with stakeholders.
make sure the town of Olds continues to take the leadership role in sustainability.
maintain a safe, secure and healthy community,
advocacy.
information sharing between council and administration.
strong fiscal management.
Dahl says in the case of advocacy, it would include things like advocating to the provincial and federal governments to help the town achieve its goals.
ìWe want them to be able to provide funds to identify and solve local needs ñ mostly for attainable housing,î Dahl says.
ìBut also, we need to advocate for our revenue sources like O-NET and Mountain View Power, new gas, Nu2u.î
She says advocacy also involves getting residents to become more involved in their own community; for example, urging people to join groups like Citizens On Patrol or the Police Advisory Society.
Dahl says information sharing between council and administrative staff is paramount.
ìWe need to stay strong with that,î she says. ìWe need to make sure that we have our governance well organized.î
Dahl says ìstrong fiscal managementî means ensuring the budget is balanced and that ìservices are our priority.î
ìMake sure we stick to the needs; make sure our core infrastructure is always looked after and amortized,î she says.
In 2016, council has revisited our council service plan that contains our council goals and council has six goals and we will be sharing that once again with the community, because the council actions involve a lot of work that will involve (the) community -- some of the things we are advocating to do.
