Olds Municipal Library is on the hunt for local residents passionate to share their skills with the library board. Candidates are appointed to the board by the Town of Olds and there are five vacancies to be filled.

Current board member Jane Wright says it's an excellent way to give back to the community.

“My family and I spend a lot of time in the library and so I felt I needed to do this.”

Board terms are for two years. The commitment includes a monthly meeting plus occasional committee meetings. All board members contribute to a standing committee whether it be personnel, community relations, finance or safety.

“It is an excellent way to meet new people in the community,” says former board member Amanda Koch. “I learned a lot about how formal meetings work and am able to take that experience with me. It was both a safe and exciting environment.”

Library manager Lesley Sackett Winfield encourages all interested candidates to apply.

“We really value a diverse board. Community members who are already active with other organizations are welcome. Anyone who's willing to share their talents is an asset. For example, parents have a unique perspective on the needs of a family.”

Those interested in sitting on the library board should plan on attending a meeting to learn how the board works and ask any questions they may have.

Applications are available through the Town of Olds and the Olds Municipal Library website at: http://oml.prl.ab.ca/about-us/board.
