The local IODE chapter is partnering with the Olds Legion to hold a special ceremony honouring veterans ahead of the regularly-scheduled Remembrance Day event.

This one is organized through the No Stone Left Alone foundation, to take place on Nov. 4 at the cemetery. Each year, legion members place flags by the headstones of veterans' graves, said IODE president Dianne Powney. They will be joined by IODE members and students from Holy Trinity Catholic School, who will place poppies.

All are welcome and Powney is asking people to arrive before 1:30 p.m., when the ceremony starts.

If weather is not favourable, the plan is to hold the event at the legion with the option to continue the ceremony at the cemetery.

Powney said she hopes students will appreciate the act of remembrance.

"They wouldn't be where they are now in Canada if it wasn't for these (veterans) fighting for our rights," she said.
