July 24 to 27 posted a milestone marker of a fantastic summer weekend for the O.R. Hedges family when the remaining family members gathered in Olds for a reunion.

Orrin Randolph Hedges was a dedicated and key contributor to the Olds Curling Club, the Olds Golf Club and a major stakeholder in the business community, operating the International Harvester dealership with his brother-in-law Sam Miller for many years.

He and his wife Alice Hedges had three sons and a daughter: Harold, Glenn, Darrell and Evelyn Hedges.

Harold's youngest son Bruce (Loralie) Hedges and their children of Fruitvale B.C. and daughter Barbara (Terry) Andrews of Kamloops B.C. made the trip to Olds. Barbara was born here in Olds and lived here until about the age of five years. She was delighted to see the old family home still standing.

Their father Harold was a World War II Veteran, and was a member of the Calgary Regiment (Tank) and served overseas for several years with his friends from Olds.

Randy Hedges, eldest son of Glenn Hedges, resides in China and is employed as an English education specialist. While living overseas for the past 17 years, he had many stories to share during his visit home for the summer. His sister Alice and brother-in-law Darrell Barr of Indus were also in attendance.

The youngest child, Darrell Hedges (Marg) hosted the family reunion at their home here in Olds. Their children David of Edmonton, Terril (Andy) of North Vancouver and Shelley of Calgary were all in attendance.

The only ones unable to join the gathering were Allan and his wife Cheryl McGillis of Edmonton. Allan is the son of Evelyn McLeod, whose maiden name was Evelyn Hedges.

The family were very proud to return home and reconnect with their family history and marked the occasion with family photos in front of the historic “O.R. HEDGES PARK” sign –- a park that was dedicated to O.R. for his commitment to the establishment of the Town of Olds.
