Bowden town council authorized the transfer of $18,871.80 to the capital budget from the road reserve to pay for repair work to the header trench at the Igloo Arena.

At the end of last season, the pipes leading from the ice plant collapsed and had to be repaired.

ìBecause we had already been approved for a (Municipal Sustainability Initiative) grant for $100,000, when we actually did the (work) it was only $80,000,î explained Lori Conkin, the Town of Bowden's chief administrative officer.

Conkin said the town had to borrow funds on a short-term basis against future MSI money until it was received from the provincial government. Following the work being done, it was discovered that more work had to be completed on the header trench at a further cost of $18,871.

Now that the work has been completed, administration requested the transfer of unused funds from the road reserve to capital. Once the town's allocation of MSI funds is received later this year for 2011, part of that allocation will go back into the roads reserve.
