Olds resident Ryan Maschke is inviting fellow residents to attend a concert he's staging at the Mayfair Theatre Oct. 30.

The purpose of the show, which begins at 2 p.m., is to raise money to cover costs for an intensive winter program for dancers, musicians and actors in New York City.

A news release says Maschke is able to attend that program because he was awarded the Broadway Bound scholarship and was second runner-up in the Candance competition in Red Deer last year.

“This winter intensive program will allow Ryan to take dance classes with the world famous Rockettes, take vocals with top Broadway coaches, train in actual New York dance studios,” the release says.

This past summer, Maschke was a member of the Storybook Theatre company in Calgary, which staged the well-known musical Grease.

“Along with 55 other students aged 12-20 years old, Ryan participated in an 11-week long program with over 180 hours of skill building. (It was a) fun, intensive theatre experience,” the release says.

“It is fun but also very hard work to provide 24 professional and high quality performances with Canada's largest semi-professional theatre company.”

This program gave Maschke work experience credits toward his high school diploma and valuable references for his post-secondary applications.

Maschke will also be working on the Olds High School Drama Club's production of The Drowsy Chaperone.

He not only plays the lead role, Robert Martin, but will also be doing the choreography for all the principal cast parts and assisting with the ensemble choreography.

Performances of The Drowsy Chaperone will take place at the TransCanada Theatre in late November and early December.
