By the end of this week, tickets are expected to be available for the second annual Spring Fling, a combination fundraiser and celebration that the end of winter is at hand. This year's edition takes place Friday, April 8, 7 p.m. at the Cow Palace.

Four causes will split proceeds from that event this year. They were chosen from among 10 applicants.

Those four, announced during an event at the Mountain View Publishing offices this past week are: funding to cover costs for the Chinook Arch Victims Services compassion dog; money to enable the Olds Gymnastics Club to expand into a bigger building; cash for the Holy Trinity School playground expansion; and Hope4MVCKids, which raises money to help families within Mountain View County who have a child with medical needs.

At Spring Fling, patrons can vote for any of the four local causes named above. The one receiving the most votes will receive 50 per cent of the proceeds. The other three will split the remaining 50 per cent.

Tickets are $75 each. Fun drinks and fancy hotdogs will be available.

Last year, the four causes were: the Olds and District Hospice Society, Olds Splash Park Association, Olds Grizzlys and Olds Regional Exhibition commercial kitchen.

The Olds and District Hospice Society received the most votes. A total of about $30,000 was distributed among the four causes.

Spring Fling organizing committee co-chair Tracy Gardner says unfortunately not every cause that applied to receive funds from this year's event could be selected, but she says the four that were are very deserving.

“Congratulations to all of you guys, and what amazing causes,” Gardner said. “Each and every one of your causes is very, very driven towards kids and the development of young people and that sort of thing, in a variety of different ways.

“It wasn't necessarily planned that way; it isn't a mandate, but it certainly is something that we felt with the four projects out of the 10 that applied.

“You guys had such great projects and you had such great attention to detail and certainly had some momentum in what you were doing. So we couldn't be more excited about these four projects,” Gardner added.

She urged those causes that didn't get chosen this year to apply next year.
