Few collisions during first major snowfall

The first major snowfall of the year in Olds didn't result in any major accidents, Cpl. Mike Black of Olds RCMP says.

In fact, he says police dealt with surprisingly few collisions on Dec. 1.

“Actually for us it was good,” Black told the Albertan.

As of mid-afternoon that day, as far as he could recall, they had only been called to one incident on Highway 2.

He says one factor in that could be that traffic units were deployed out of Airdrie and Innisfail.

In Olds itself, police were called to three or four accidents, but Black said they were minor, with no injuries.

Black was asked if that's better than the first big snowfall last year.

“I would think it is,” he said. “It was a lot better than what I was anticipating, there's no doubt.”
