Police confirm that a 52-year-old Olds motorcyclist died in a fatal vehicle collision that closed Highway 2A at Twp. Rd. 324 for nearly two hours on Sept. 19.

The collision occurred at 4:15 p.m. and the highway was reopened at about 6 p.m.

According to a police spokesperson, the motorcyclist was making a left turn when he was struck from behind by a Dodge Caliber. Both vehicles were travelling northbound.

The spokesperson said the investigation is still in early stages but no alcohol was involved.

As of Monday morning, Sept. 22, charges had not been laid but were being “considered,” the spokesperson said.

Later that weekend, no alcohol was involved in a single-vehicle rollover that occurred on Sept. 21 at Highway 27 and Rge. Rd. 25.

According to RCMP, the incident happened shortly before 5 p.m. and the vehicle involved was a silver Toyota pickup truck.

Earlier in the week, a cyclist was struck near the Tedd's Food Mart at Highway 27 and 50 Street on Sept. 17.

According to a police spokesperson, the cyclist was treated and discharged from hospital but has not provided a statement.
