This year's haunted house at the Boys and Girls Club promises to be so terrifying that staff will be there to escort visitors safely out of the building, just in case.

"If people are at a point where they are very uncomfortable, we will have staff there that will just stop what's happening and guide them out," says the board chair Raelynn Notley.

"We never had to do that last year. But just in case, we're always aware we don't want to upset anybody but we also know that being scared is part of the reason they're there."

This year's event, which is a fundraiser for the organization, takes place Thursday to Saturday, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at 5021 – 51st Street. Admission is $5. The recommended age for visitors is 13 years old and up. Notley says younger children are welcome but asks parents to use discretion, sign a waiver and accompany them through.

Feedback from last year's event was good, so they decided to ramp things up.

"We had lots of people come through twice just because they had a lot of fun going through it. That's why this year we wanted to make it longer and increase that scare factor," Notley says.

The main difference with this year is that the haunted house is bigger, with multiple scenes that you can walk through. The theme of the exhibit is a haunted prison, with seven different rooms. Expect strobe lights, fog, noise and things hanging from the ceiling, Notley says.

There were a few sponsors that contributed toward the bigger event: Fat Cat, Western Financial Group, Silent Wolf Welding, Uptowne Olds and the Olds College School of Trades.
