A concert promoter says reaction to an Elvis tribute show in Olds a couple of years ago was so strong that Elvis impersonator Donny Edwards is coming back here.

Edwards will be performing at the TransCanada Theatre Sept. 25. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $48 and are available at Rockin' Retro, online at etixnow.com or at the door on show day (cash only at that point).

"I actually was the one who presented the show two years ago and we had a fantastic crowd. I think we had just over 350 (people) there for that show," says Mike Schell of the Schell Shock Entertainment Agency.

"It was fantastic and that's why I decided to bring it back here because on our social media platform, we really find we had a great response from the Olds area to bring back the show."

Schell says he's marketing the show as "Vegas comes to Olds," because Edwards is doing so well in Las Vegas, where Elvis himself reigned.

"Donny Edwards basically is probably in my opinion (among) the top three in-demand tribute artists touring the world as we speak," he says.

Schell notes that about six weeks ago, Edwards performed at the Westgate Hotel in Las Vegas.

"That's the venue that Elvis performed 837 shows at," Schell says.

"Donny was just asked to do a 40th anniversary show there ñ the only Elvis tribute artist ever to have been asked to do that."

He says from there, Edwards went on to do a couple of shows in Memphis during Elvis Week, a weeklong event at Elvis's home which pays tribute to The King, who died 40 years ago.

Edwards will be performing in Olds with the Cadillac Kings, a backup band that Schell says is the sanctioned band for the Penticton Elvis Festival.

The show is an overview of Elvis's career.

"The first set will be Donny doing a tribute to Elvis in the 1950s, with songs such as Teddy Bear, Don't Be Cruel and Jailhouse Rock," Schell says.

"Then the 70s: you can hear such songs as Burnin' Love, Proud Mary, Suspicious Minds, and of course the favourite, Can't Help Falling In Love.

"It's a fantastic show."
