Donations sought for New Year's Baby Hamper

The organizers of the annual New Year's Baby Hamper campaign are seeking donated gifts from local businesses that will go to the first baby born at the Olds Hospital and Care Centre in 2014. And this year, a new organization is running the campaign.

The organizers of the annual New Year's Baby Hamper campaign are seeking donated gifts from local businesses that will go to the first baby born at the Olds Hospital and Care Centre in 2014.

And this year, a new organization is running the campaign.

Since 1997, Xi Alpha Sigma, the local chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, a service organization made up of women from across the globe, has spearheaded the hamper campaign.

But Carroll Smith, the chair of the local chapter's hamper collection effort, said the chapter has become too small to continue the campaign as some members head south for the winter and others are too old to participate.

The Mountain View Parent Link Centre, a provincial support program for parents, has taken over the duties of running the hamper collection project.

The centre will collect items for the hamper until Dec. 12 and any businesses wishing to donate to the campaign can contact Jennifer Forscutt at 403-586-6537 or [email protected].
