Creative Spring Fling food, drinks planned

The hotdog you get at the second annual Spring Fling charity fundraiser this year won't just be any hotdog.

It will be a fancy one, says Tracy Gardner, who co-chairs the Spring Fling organizing committee, along with Hugh Bodmer.

“We do provide what we call a Fling Dog as the meal,” she said during an event at Mountain View Publishing.

At Spring Fling, those attending can vote for any of the four local causes. The one that obtains the most votes will receive 50 per cent of the proceeds. The other three will split the remaining 50 per cent.

The four causes were chosen from among 10 applicants.

Those four causes are: funding to cover costs for the Chinook Arch Victims Services compassion dog; money to enable the Olds Gymnastics Club to expand into a bigger building; cash for the Holy Trinity School playground expansion; and Hope4MVCKids, which raises money to help families within Mountain View County who have a child with medical needs.

Tickets are $75 each. Organizers stress 100 per cent of the proceeds goes to the charity a patron chooses.

“They're like gourmet hotdogs so there are really fun ways – toppings to get your dog,” Gardner said.

“This year they're doing different themed dogs and different toppings and stuff but they're also going to add perogies. So they're just going to make it a little bit different.”

Special themed drinks will also be available. There's a possibility that each cause might create its own specially-themed drink for the occasion.

Last year, some people said it felt like they were paying a lot for a hotdog.

Gardner said one way to look at it is patrons are making a $75 contribution to the cause of their choice.

“It's just a really fantastic and fun opportunity for people to be engaged in some music and some great fundraising efforts,” Gardner said.
