Council agrees to have mailboxes moved

Town council approved a bylaw amendment to move parking spaces in front of mailboxes near Destiny Way at its Sept. 23 meeting.

Town council approved a bylaw amendment to move parking spaces in front of mailboxes near Destiny Way at its Sept. 23 meeting.

The mailboxes in question are located on a playground between Destiny Way and Destiny Place and currently there are parking spaces right in front of the mailboxes.

Council received a complaint that the mailboxes are too close to a woman's property and so it held a public hearing on the matter.

Helen Lansdel wrote a letter to council saying the mailboxes are located near the rear property line of her home on Destiny Place.

“I strenuously object to the proposed placement of Canada Post mailboxes a scant two metres from my property line,” she wrote. “The location will disturb the peaceful enjoyment of my property, lower the resale value of my property, and do so without warrant, given there is ample approach and placement footage available on the south side of the existing playground.”

Lansdel was not present for the public hearing.

Council agreed to amend the bylaw to move the parking spaces from their current spot near Lansdel's property to the east closer to Destiny Way.
