Chinook Arch Victims Services (CAVS) is one of four charities or non-profit groups hoping to raise money via the second annual Spring Fling, which takes place Friday, April 8, 7 p.m. at the Cow Palace.

Spring Fling is a kind of community party/multi-group fundraiser celebrating the arrival of spring.

Patrons vote for any one of four local causes. The one receiving the most votes will receive 50 per cent of the proceeds. The remaining funds are split between the other three causes. Tickets are $75 each. Fun drinks and fancy hotdogs will be available.

CAVS plans to use its share of the money to help cover costs for Ringo, its compassion dog.

“We utilize Ringo for children,” CAVS program manager Rhonda Kearns says. “So for kids that come in to the RCMP detachment to give statements, Ringo can accompany them and then for court, when they're testifying as well.”

“Most of our funding comes from the solicitor general, but they will not fund our dogs,” she says. “So we basically have to fundraise to house Ringo and keep his four legs on the ground.”

In addition to Chinook Arch Victims Services, other non-profit or charity groups receiving assistance via Spring Fling are:

The Olds Gymnastics Club, which hopes to obtain a spring floor to improve safety for club members.

A project to expand the Holy Trinity School playground.

Hope4MVCKids. When all other sources of funding fail, it provides assistance to families whose children require medical help.
