CLC opening residents to outdoors

The Community Learning Campus is providing residents with low-cost equipment rental through its Outdoor Centre so that they can enjoy the outdoors.

CLC Fitness Supervisor Brittany Ehmann said its inventory was paid for through grants, including a portion from RBC and from NU2U.

Some of that equipment is for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, camping and skating.

"You come to us, you basically let us know what you need and from that point, you're free to take that equipment and use it wherever your heart desires. The great part is it opens up the opportunities for you to explore and be an adventurer yourself," Ehmann said.

"That way, a lot of our community members that don't have access to the non-traditional sports or activities and don't have the equipment available to them can come and easily rent at our facility for a very minimal fee."

She said the Outdoor Centre was only started a few weeks ago and is continuing to grow the equipment supply.

It also provides programming, such as a recent half-day snowshoe trip to Chester Lake that 12 people attended.

Equipment bookings can be made online at the CLC website. Pickup and drop-off is at the fitness centre.
