The Olds and District Christmas Angels Society's annual Christmas hamper program is underway once again. Donation barrels have been delivered to several retail outlets in Olds.

For 19 years, the Olds and District Christmas Angels Society has provided toys for children of needy families in the community. It has also provided needy families with grocery gift cards for local grocery stores.

“The donation of new toys and gifts for children of all ages and monetary donations for the purchase of grocery gift cards will be welcomed,” says Christmas Angels director Erica Sweetman. “We expect the demand for Christmas hampers this year to exceed any previous year.”

Sweetman cited the downturn in the Alberta economy as one factor in the expected increase for hamper requests.

“We could not succeed without the generosity of the entire community,” Sweetman says. “We are so fortunate that we live in a community that cares about everyone.”

The Christmas Angel telephone line, 403-415-9627, is already in operation. People can phone the Angel line if they would like to make a donation, volunteer, or refer a family or individual for a Christmas hamper.
