Christian Heritage Party candidate Randy Van Den Broek has joined the Wild Rose riding election race, calling himself a good alternative to incumbent Conservative Blake Richards.

“I have my name on the ballot for Christians and social conservatives, to give them a better choice than Conservatives to vote for,” Van Den Broek said in a telephone interview Thursday. “The main thing the Christian Heritage Party stands for is we recognize the family as the centre building block of society.

“We support a good strong family with a male and a female married together. We are against same sex marriage. We are pro-life and we are against euthanasia. Basically we are socially conservative.”

Van Den Broek is a Lethbridge-area Grade 12 student and the operator of a carpet cleaning business.

While CHP party is based on Christian teachings, “one of our platforms isn't to teach the Bible,” he said.

“We keep the religion out of it, but we would govern according to the Bible. We still believe in the separation of church and state,” he said.

Van Den Broek says he does not plan to come to the riding during the campaign.

“I am not running an active campaign,” he said.
