Charges are pending against the driver of an SUV after a spectacular two-vehicle collision occurred Nov. 13 just east of Boston Pizza in Olds.

The collision between an SUV and a grain truck occurred just after 5 p.m. that evening. Olds RCMP, Olds firefighters and ambulance personnel responded. Traffic was diverted at Highway 2A and Rge. Rd. 13.

“The driver of a Hyundai SUV was stopped on the side of the road facing eastbound. She attempted to do a U-turn and pulled into the path of an eastbound grain truck causing the truck to collide with the driver side of the SUV,” Staff Sgt. Jim MacDonald said.

“The unloaded grain truck travelled across the westbound lanes and flipped as it entered the north ditch.

“The driver of the SUV had to be extracted from her vehicle by the fire department and was transported to hospital with injuries,” he added.

“The driver of the truck was uninjured.”

An investigation into the collision was still underway as of Thursday, Nov. 14.
