OLDS — Fire officials are continuing to investigate the cause of an early morning fire in a house that appears to have been unoccupied.

RCMP officers on patrol in Olds discovered the fire at 1:44 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8.

It had broken out in a home in the 5200 block of 50th Street. Police called the blaze in to the Red Deer Emergency Services E911 Centre.

When police saw it, the fire was on the east side of the structure in the entrance to the home.

“The structure had visible flames and smoke throughout,” a Town of Olds news release issued today said. “It was unknown at the time of call if the structure was occupied.”

Sixteen Olds Fire Department firefighters responded with two engines, an aerial ladder truck, one command unit, and a support unit. They were on-scene for approximately two hours.

Once the fire was brought under control, the house was searched and it was determined that the home was an unoccupied building.

“The Olds Fire Department would like to thank the RCMP for their quick discovery of the fire and Alberta Health Services for providing medical stand-by,” the news release said.
